The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) is set to construct the first ever grain storage shed in Milenge District, Luapula Province.
The council has since allocated 3.5 hectares of land to the FRA for the project.
Milenge District Commissioner, Mwenya Bupe told ZANIS in Milenge today, that the contractor, Advance African Solution, is scheduled to move on sight in two weeks’ time.
Mr. Bupe has also expressed optimism that the 3,000 ton capacity storage shed will enhance food security in the area.
“It was a challenge to transport the maize to the neighbouring district of Samfya to access the nearest FRA storage shed. Maize production has gone up in Milenge and there is a need for the area to have its own storage facility,” he stated.
Mr Bupe added that the facility will also provide temporary and permanent employment to the local people.
Meanwhile, Advance African Solution Project Manager, Orly Penaso has promised to deliver the project on schedule in five months. “Our commitment as a contractor is to do quality work according to the expected standards. In addition, we will engage locals to do the construction works so as to empower the beneficiary community,” he said.
