Police in Chama district in Muchinga Province, have picked remains of an unidentified man in his early sixties believed to have died a month ago.
The deceased lived alone at a farm and is believed to have died from natural causes.
The remains of the deceased man were found in an advanced state of decomposition.
Muchinga Police Commissioner Lizzy Machina has confirmed the incident to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chinsali today.
Ms. Machina said the unidentified man was found dead at Kaozi settlement scheme Zone C in the early hours of Wednesday March 24, 2021.
The Police Commissioner said brief facts are that the now deceased used to stay alone at his farm which is located about eight (8) kilometers away from the main Kambombo Road in Chama district.
She said that Doka Mkandawire, 29, of Kaozi settlement scheme, who is also the Councillor for Kamphemba Ward, reported through a phone call that an unidentified body of a man has been found in Kaozi village.
The police Chief said officers visited the scene and members of the community identified the deceased as Kazikanji Nyirenda, believed to be in his early sixties.
Ms. Machina said the deceased was discovered dead outside his hut by Suzyo Muwowo aged 28 also of the same area arouond 07:00 hours on Wednesday March 24, 2021.
She said that the body was found laying lifeless on the ground about 1 meter from his hut in Kaozi settlement scheme Zone C facing upwards.
“Police officers inspected the body and no physical injuries were observed,” said Ms. Machina.
She however, added that the body was in an advanced decomposed state and therefore could not be conveyed to the Mortuary for Postmortem.
Ms. Machina said the deceased’s relatives could not be traced as he (deceased) lived alone on his farm.
Ms. Machina said some members of the community that knew the now deceased person, stated that he was an epileptic patient.
The police Commissioner said members of the community were advised to bury the body and mark the grave for possible exhumation.
