Government Chief Whip Brian Mundubile says the introduction of the enactment of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crime Act is inevitable and timely.
Speaking to ZANIS in Mporokoso, Mr Mundubile said the continued abuse of the cyberspace calls for action, in order to curb the vice.
“Just as we have laws that govern and control the physical space, we also need to be able to provide security on the cyber space” said Mr Mundubile
Mr Mundubile, who is also Patriotic Front Chairperson for legal affairs and Mporokoso Member of Parliament, said it is the duty of every responsible government to protect its citizens from any form of abuse, hence the introduction of the enactment of the act.
He observed that a number of Zambians have suffered at the hands of unscrupulous people, who have been swindling unsuspecting members of the public, while others have also been victims of character assassination among other things.
“It is the responsibility of every government to ensure protection of its citizens from any form of abuse” he noted.
Mr Mundubile has since urged Zambians to take time to read the act, in order to avoid being in conflict with the law.
Last week, President Edgar Lungu assented into law the Cyber Security and Cyber Bill of 2021.
President Lungu signed the bill into law on Tuesday 23rd March, with the hope that the law will bring sanity in the way the internet is used in Zambia.
