Civic leaders’ input results in increased COVID-19 vaccination

Chipata General Hospital in Lusaka has recorded an overwhelming response from members of the public getting vaccinated against the COVID-19.

Chipata General Hospital Public Health Specialist Chota Chishimba has since commended civic leaders in Mandevu constituency for being instrumental in mobilizing members of the community to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Dr. Chishimba said following the re-launch of the campaign on May 14, 2022 the response from people in the area has been positive towards the vaccination Programme.

She attributed the positive response to the engagement of the counsellors who have been assisting the Ministry of Health and its co-operating partners to change the negative perception people have towards the COVID-19 vaccine.

Dr. Chishimba said this when Lusaka District Commissioner Rosa Zulu visited her office to check the COVID-19 vaccination campaign at the facility.

Mrs Zulu expressed delight at the positive report especially that Lusaka has the lowest number of eligible people vaccinated against the COVID-19 in the province standing at 23 percent.

She remained confident that the narrative will change as many people are now more receptive to the vaccine.

The nationwide COVID -19 campaign was re- launched on May 14, 2022 by Vice President Mutale Nalumango in order to sensitize and have more eligible populations get vaccinated.
