Govt. releases K 900, 000 for women empowerment in Rufunsa District

Government through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has released more than K 900, 000 under the Supporting Women Livelihood project to benefit 481 women in Rufunsa District.

The project is aimed at improving the wellbeing of women and their families.

Witnessing the payments which were done through individual Airtel mobile money accounts, Rufunsa District Commissioner, Richard Mabena called on the women to use the money for the intended purpose.

Mr. Mabena said Government is committed to alleviating poverty amongst households, hence initiating empowerment programmes.

He urged the women to take advantage of the Government programmes to improve their wellbeing and to contribute positively to national development.

The District Commissioner urged the women to desist from getting credits but form savings groups which Government is promoting through the Department of Community Development.

Rufunsa District Community Development Officer, Maureen Kabampi said the women beneficiaries have undergone trainings in entrepreneurship to enable them run their businesses effectively.

Mrs. Kabampi said the Department has trained the women in business identification and how to manage it.

She said the women have also been advised to engage themselves in savings groups so that they borrow from the same.

The women have commended the Government for its continued support and pledged to use the money for the intended purpose.

The 481 women beneficiaries received K1, 895 each and will receive the second instalment of the same amount at month-end bringing the total of K3,790 per beneficiary
