Government through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has empowered 20 women groups in Mwansabombwe district with a grant worth K240, 000.
District Community Development Officer, Elizabeth Musesa says her
department has since disbursed the funds to the 20 benefiting groups
with each group walking away with K12, 000.
Ms. Musesa said the women groups underwent a training in life and
business skills before receiving the funds so as to equip them on how to use the money.
She said some groups will be engaged into farming practices such as
poultry farming, while others will venture into small businesses such
as tailoring among others.
Ms. Musesa advised the beneficiaries to use the funds in line with the
business activity they applied for and not to divert the funds to
other activities.
Mwansabombwe District Commissioner, Morton Sikazwe who handed over the grants to
the beneficiaries said government is committed to transforming the
lives of women and youths through such empowerment programmes.
Mr. Sikazwe cautioned the beneficiaries against misapplication
of the funds and appealed to the Department of
Community Development to strictly monitor the groups.
He encouraged the recipients of the funds to view the monies received
as seed which they can multiply to better their living standards.
speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, District Women
Association, Chairperson Evelyn Mwale thanked government for the grants
which she said will help transform their lives.
