A 26-year-old man has committed suicide by drinking phoskill insecticide after a social dispute.
Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer, Sharon Zulu, confirmed the incident to ZANIS in Ndola today.
Ms. Zulu said the incident occurred on July 3, 2022 around 14:00 hours in Kasongo farm block in Ndola district.
She explained that the matter was reported by Joseph Mulenga aged 48 of plot number 0920 Minsundu in Ndola.
“Brief facts of the matter are that on July 3, 2022 at about 14 hours at Kasongo farms, Francis Chanda drank phoskill insecticide after he was suspected to have stolen four tomato fruits at Luapula Eden farms in Kasongo area where he worked as a farm manager.
Ms. Zulu said the accusation angered Chanda who resorted to taking about 500 mls of the poison before he ran into the bush where he became unconscious.
She said after a search for him, Chanda was found and rushed to Ndola Teaching Hospital where he died after being admitted for a few hours.
She said the body of the deceased is lying in Ndola Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting burial.
