FAZ salutes Copper Queens for qualifying to FIFA Women’s World Cup

The Football Association of Zambia FAZ has congratulated the Zambia Women National Team for making it to the FIFA Women’s World Cup to be hosted by Australia and New Zealand in 2023.

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga says the qualification is a huge milestone for the entire football fraternity.

Mr Kamanga, has also thanked the government, especially the FAZ patron, President Hakainde Hichilema and the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Art for the support rendered to the Copper Queens during preparations and the tournament itself, which he said helped motivate the team to perform better.

“Many thanks to the government, especially the FAZ patron, President Hakainde Hichilema and Minister of Youth, Sport, and Arts Minister  Elvis Nkandu whose support has invigorated the team’s desire to go an extra mile,” he said.

Kamanga says the team will now focus on its next objective of fighting to lift the WAFON trophy, for which they qualified to the quarter finals when they beat Senegal through penalties last evening.

“Considering where the women’s game is coming from, we are happy that the efforts that we have put in the last few years have yielded admirable results like Olympic and World Cup qualifications. We hope that these achievements will galvanize support in the women’s game especially the Super League that is in its infancy” he said.

Kamanga has further paid tribute to the players, the clubs that have moulded the players into world class players and the technical bench for the world cup success.
