Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), has donated 2000 bags of rice and 9000 bags of meal-meal to Luangwa district .
Zanis reports that Luangwa district Commissioner, Luke Chikani who is also the chairperson of the DMMU, flagged off the distribution of the consignment at a maize shed in Kakaro area in the district.
Mr. Chikani expressed government’s commitment to safeguard the livelihood of its people and to ensure that no one dies of hunger in the district.
“ This government is committed to uplift the livelihood of its citizenry ,” he noted.
The District Commissioner listed the beneficiaries as the aged, the chronically ill , female and child headed households , the disabled and other vulnerable people in the district.
Mr. Chikani said the consignment will also help to reduce the hunger situation in the communities as most of their crops were lost through the flash floods, dry spell and the human- animal- conflict in the district.
Representing the beneficiaries, Magulata Tembo thanked the republican president for taking care of the Zambians especially the aged.
In a related development, the District Commissioner revealed that 600 farmers in the district will benefit from the Farmer Input Support Program( FISP) .

He added that the district has received 600 by 50 kilograms bags of urea and 600 by five kilogram bags of cereal as Farmer Input Support Programme ( FISP) .
The district is yet to receive another 600 x 50kg consignment of D compound fertilizer he said
