Over K 13, 000 has been approved for various developmental projects under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in Rufunsa district in Lusaka Province.
Rufunsa Member of Parliament Sheal Mulyata says the projects include the construction of health posts and classroom blocks, staff houses in schools and health facilities, ablution blocks, drilling of 15 boreholes and a mortuary are among the major developmental projects that will be undertaken in the constituency.
ZANIS reports that Mrs Mulyata who is also Lusaka Province Minister said this when she handed over empowerment funds that the district has so far received K6.4 million out of the approved K13.9 Million for 22 community projects.
“Currently, the district only has one mortuary which has a capacity to accommodate only three bodies,” she said.
She announced that an initial K488, 961 empowerment fund has been disbursed to 22 clubs.
“This is out of a total of 72 applications valued at K1.9 million. The rest of the successful applicants will receive their funds soon,” she said.
Mrs Mulyata noted that K1 Million has already been spent on student bursaries benefitting 339 students in the constituency.
She also observed that government is finalizing loan modalities and that successful applicants will soon receive their loans.
Council chairperson, Kennedy Mailoni bemoaned the high levels of poverty in the district stating that most people lack capital to start businesses.
