SEED farm and Chandamali residents in Chinsali district in Muchinga province have expressed worry over unsafe drinking water in the area.
Speaking to ZANIS in an interview today, Jennifer Kabwe from Seed farm area stated that there has not been piped water in the area for a very long time now.
“During the rainy season pit latrines and water wells mix, meaning the water becomes contaminated,” she said.
Ms. Kabwe has appealed to Chambeshi Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited (ChWSSC) to provide the area with clean piped water.
Another resident of Chandamali area Matilda Chali says shallow wells are proving to be a danger especially with children.
“Many children have been victims of these shallow wells were we draw water from,” She said.
And a marketeer in seed farm area Maria Chanda said it is a challenge for marketeers especially with toilets.
“Here at the market we face challenges of water especially that the toilets accommodate a lot of people,” she added.
Meanwhile, when contacted for a comment Chambeshi Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited District Manager Jonathan Singu says that the company is putting up a new water tank in Chandamali area.
Mr.Singu added that the road works in the area have affected the projects.
“Chandamali water project is under way and some parts of the area near Mwaba school have water supply in place already,” He said.
Mr Singu has also noted that seed farm area is on full supply and all the leakages were worked on.
