Four UCZ accident victims, including an infant evacuated

Government has evacuated four accident victims, who include an infant, to Lusaka for specialized treatment.

The four are from the tragic United Church of Zambia (UCZ) accident that took place in Nsama district in Northern Province yesterday.

ZANIS reports that the victims arrived aboard a ZAF aircraft at ZAF base at around 16:45 hours this afternoon.

Three victims have been rushed to the University Teaching Hospital while one has been taken to Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital for specialist treatment.

Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo who received the patients explains that others are still being treated in Northern Province.

She however said if need arises, those who are receiving care in Northern Province will also be brought to Lusaka for specialist treatment.

“We are happy that these four that are here have successfully been evacuated to Lusaka and will soon receive specialised treatment.

We still have some more that have remained in the other hospitals in Northern Province.

We are hoping that the treatment at that level is sufficient for now and if the specialists feel and think there is need for evacuation to Lusaka that will also happen tomorrow.” Ms. Masebo said.

The Minister also urged Zambians to continue praying for the recovery of the surviving victims, adding that it is a sad moment for the country.

The death toll for the accident now stands at 21.
