Government has disbursed over K7 million as payment to farmers who supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in the 2022 crop marketing season in Nchelenge District.
Nchelenge District Agriculture Coordinator Arnold Muimui says told ZANIS in an interview that the FRA purchased a total of 5,046.6 metric tons of maize grain from farmers.
Mr. Muimui disclosed that farmers who sold maize grain to FRA have since started getting paid and are expected to start depositing their monies for inputs soon.
He observed that the timely disbursement of funds will enable farmers plan promptly for the coming farming season.
Mr. Muimui has since urged farmers to take advantage of the reopening of the marketing season to sale their produce at the recommended price.
He further disclosed that the district has received guidelines on the 2022 Farmer Input Support Programme and that registration of farmers has commenced.
