Kasama receives K39, 000 for desk rehabilitation

Kasama District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Andrew Chipili, says the district has received K39, 000 for rehabilitating desks in schools.

Mr. Chipili told ZANIS in an interview that an analysis that has been carried out indicates that 80 desks can be rehabilitated using the funds received.

He said the free education policy has increased the number of learners in schools, a situation that has resulted into inadequate furniture for the pupils.

He however expressed gratitude to government for giving schools the much needed grants to address the challenge of desks.

Mr. Chipili said the rehabilitated desks will be handed over to schools that are in dire need of such furniture.

“We have some schools where pupils are just sitting on the floor,” he said.

He added that government has attached a lot of importance to the education sector hence the grants it is giving to the schools.

And Kasama skills centre Instructor, Maxwell Musawa, said the institution is currently organising and collecting materials to rehabilitate school desks.

Mr. Musawa said the skills centre has engaged schools to source for materials from broken desks.

He said the institution will start rehabilitating the desks once all materials needed are in place.
