Stakeholders call for ban of Hiace mini buses

Commuter Rights Association of Zambia President Aaron Kamuti has appealed to the government to consider phasing out Toyota Hiace mini buses, in the wake of the accident that occurred yesterday, that claimed eleven lives.

Mr Kamuti told ZANIS in an interview that time has come for the government to phase out the said buses.

He advised the government to consider phasing out the Hiace mini buses, in a phased manner to safeguard the lives of passengers, who are dependent on that mode of transport.

Mr Kamuti said it is saddening that lives of innocent passengers are being lost, in a manner that could otherwise be avoided.

He also implored the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) to heighten highway patrols, to avoid further fatal accidents.

Mr Kamuti said Zambia has adequate regulations to govern the operations of the transport sector, adding that regulating the road users should not be difficult.
