18 year old commits suicide after failing his GCE  exams

An 18- year -old Grade twelve (12) school leaver of Roan Township in Luanshya has commit suicide by hanging after allegedly failing his General Certificate of Education ( GCE ) examinations.

The deceased identified as Jason Chonde reportedly hanged himself to the roof of his bedroom using a school necktie between 11:30 hours and 16: 30 hours, on Wednesday.

Copperbelt province police commissioner Sharon Zulu confirmed the incident in an interview saying the deceased’s father Thomas Chishala aged 63 of house No.93/10 Roan Township reported the matter to Roan police station.

Facts are that the father of the deceased yesterday around 11:30 hours left his home for the market to have his scale repaired leaving the deceased with other family members at home.

Upon returning about 16:30 hours he found the gate locked and he forced entry and further found the house locked.

It was then that the deceased’ s father went round the house and found the window to his son’s bedroom open and to his shock discovered his son hanging to the roof.

Mr. Chishala then called his neighbours to witness what had happened and later there after he reported the matter to the police.

And Mrs. Cheelo said when police visited the scene, they found the deceased’s phone laying on the bed, and it was discovered that he had been checking his GCE results which reflected that he had failed.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited to Roan Antelope general hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.

However, both the police and the family of the deceased have ruled out foul play.
