Muchinga PS calls on REA for speedy power connection

Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Henry Mukungule has called on the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) to increase the capacity of electricity in the Province ahead of the 2023 Investment and Tourism Expo.

Mr. Mukungule says there is need to increase the availability of electricity for the successful hosting of the event.

Speaking when a team from REA paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Chinsali, the Permanent Secretary stated that the investors that will be in the province will require enough electricity, in order to bring industrial development in the region.

He added that REA plays an important role in the improvement of people’s livelihoods especially in rural areas, through the provision of reliable electricity connectivity.

“It is important that we see how best we can increase electricity in the province especially when investors from the private sector come for our expo.” He said.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Mukungule further appealed to REA to quickly connect Mafinga district to the national grid, stressing that the district has been depending on power from neighbouring Malawi.

And REA Board Chairperson Likonge Mulenga, noted that the authority will continue supplementing the government’s efforts in ensuring that rural areas have access to electricity.

A team from Rural Electrification Authority (REA) is in Muchinga province to commission the Sansamwenje grid extension project in Isoka district.
