Government has released over K 3 million to pay 7,580 beneficiaries under the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) programme in Chirundu District of Southern Province for the bi-monthly of September and October.
Chirundu District Social Welfare Officer, Charity Tembo, says the money will go towards the payment of various categories as enlisted under the Social Cash Transfer Programme in the district.
Ms. Tembo has since commended government for releasing the transfers consistently which she says has enabled her office to facilitate the payment of the transfers on time in line with the guidelines.
ZANIS reports that Ms. Tembo explained in an interview on Friday, that the payment of the bi-monthly transfers to the beneficiaries on time has assisted them to invest the money in income generating activities as the payments are now predictable.
“ I appeal to beneficiaries to always avail themselves to Pay point Managers (PPMs) whenever their payments are due as failure to do so has other ramifications, “ she said.
Ms. Tembo also appealed to District Welfare Assistance Committee (DWAC) members and Community Welfare Assistance Committee (CWAC) members to work her office to enhance sensitisation on the programme.
And Ms. Tembo has disclosed that the ongoing scaling-up of the Social Cash Transfer by an additional 832 beneficiaries in the district is progressing well.
Ms. Tembo stated that her officers are still in the field carrying out the exercise and praised communities for their cooperation.
Currently, Chirundu District in Southern Province has 7,580 active beneficiaries under the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) programme.
