Over 40 shops closed for indiscriminate dumping of garbage in Chingola

Chingola Municipal Council yesterday swung into action and closed down over 40 shops that have not subscribed to the collection of garbage by a private firm in Buyantanshi Township.

According to a statement made available to ZANIS in Chingola today and signed by Public Relations Officer, Believe Chisanga, the public health department working in conjunction with the Council Police Officers managed to close down over 40 Shops for non-compliance.

Ms Chisenga noted that the move was prompted after discovering that some shop owners had been dumping garbage indiscriminately contrary to the Solid Waste Regulation and Management Act, 2018 of the Laws of Zambia.

The Public Relations Officer disclosed that the shop owners did not want to subscribe to Nepotech, a company engaged to collect waste in Buyantashi a situation which has made it difficult for the local authority to manage solid waste in the area.

Ms Chisenga has since warned business owners of prosecution for failure to follow the laid down procedures and rules.
