RTSA cautions motorists to have fire extinguishers in their vehicles

The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) in Northern Province has called on motorists to ensure that they have fire extinguishers in their vehicles.

RTSA Station Manager Richard Lombe said it is a requirement for all Public Service Vehicles (PSV) to have a fire extinguisher to help prevent damage to vehicles in case of a fire.

Mr Mlombe was speaking to ZANIS and was reacting to the incidences of vehicles catching fire and in most cases motorists were unable to extinguish the fire due to lack of fire extinguishers.

“Motorists need to take responsibility and protect their vehicles and passengers by having a well-equipped fire extinguisher on the vehicle “Mr Lombe said

Meanwhile, Mr Lombe has advised motorists to desist from drinking and driving during the fourth coming festive season.

He explained that motorists need to keenly observe road traffic rules to avoid accidents.

Mr Lombe stated that RTSA officers will be on the ground to ensure that the traffic rules are upheld by motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Early this month a vehicle was completely gutted by fire on the Kasama-Mbala road near the Forest plantation while another vehicle survived the ordeal after it was caught fire while at a named shop.
