Entrepreneurship critical to wealth creation-Habeenzu

Government has acknowledged that entrepreneurship is a critical sector that contributes significantly to the country’s economic growth and wealth creation.

Ministry of Technology and Science Permanent Secretary, Brilliant Habenzu says this is the reason government has prioritised   increased productivity and exports while involving the majority of citizens at all levels, especially the youths who are mostly entrepreneurs.

ZANIS reports that Mr Habenzu said this in a speech read on his behalf by Vocational and Training Director Alex Simumba, at the opening of the 15th Annual Global Entrepreneurshipp 2022, under the Theme: Transforming Zambia’s Natural Minerals and Culture Resources and eeconomic ggrowth and wealth for all Citizens.

Mr Habenzu said his Ministry is elated by Global Entrepreneurship Network Zambia and its sponsors for supplementing government effort in promoting entrepreneurship culture and growth mindset among the citizens.

He stated that the  Ministry  has undertaken an Entrepreneurship Training Impact Assessment in selected TEVET institutions in the 10 provinces of Zambia to appreciate some of the challenges being faced in entrepreneurship development in the country.

He  added that the findings will assist in determining the review of the entrepreneurship curriculum and also support the development of Entrepreneurship Training Material by TEVETA.

And Global Entrepreneurship Network Directo,r Margret Siwale said  entrepreneurship is one of the key drivers of the economy.

Dr Siwale said the meeting is also aimed at promoting student development in entrepreneurship as most colleges and universities have incorporated entrepreneurship in their curriculum to avoid dependency on white collar jobs once they graduate.

She has urged entrepreneurs taking part in the workshop to use the opportunity to learn different entrepreneurial skills.

The 15th Global Entrepreneurship week starts today 27th December and ends on Friday 30th December 27, 2022.
