Chipata Mayor, George Mwanza has commended various stakeholders for their efforts to end early marriages and teenage pregnancies in the district.
Mr Mwanza says the joint efforts by stakeholder targeted at fighting early marriages and teenage pregnancies are bearing fruit.
ZANIS reports that the Mayor said this when he addressed the media in Chipata.
Mr Mwanza further said it is encouraging to note that no underage girl was recorded to have given birth during the Christmas period this year.
Mr Mwanza urged the local Non-Governmental Organisations(NGOs) and the traditional leadership to continue working towards protecting the lives of young girls and boys in society.
Last year under the same period, a 13 year old girl was reported to have given birth.
