North Western Province Permanent Secretary Grandson Katambi has bemoaned the low birth registration of children under the age of five which currently stands at 14 percent.
Colonel. Katambi has since called for heightened sensitisation if there is to be an increase in the registration of vital events.
The Permanent Secretary said this in Solwezi when he officiated at the provincial dissemination of the National Civil Registration and Vital statistics policy.
He observed that the creation of a population register would enable the state to account for all its citizens.
And Acting Principal Planner in the Ministry of Home Affairs Alex Mukisi
said only ten percent of marriages country wide are registered.
He said this is because most citizens do not know that their marriages need to be registered with the Department of National Registration and Passports.
He said the coming of the National Civil Registration and Vital statistics policy will help coordinate all efforts in civil registration in the country.
