Two people have died in separate fatal road traffic accidents in Kapiri Mposhi District in Central Province.
Central Province Police Commanding Officer, David Mukuka, confirmed the separate accidents in a press statement accessed by ZANIS in Kabwe.
Mr. Mukuka said a 27-year-old pedestrian identified as Jennipher Moyo died on the spot after being hit by a Toyota Vitz as she was crossing the road while the baby she was carrying on the back sustained injuries.
He said the unregistered vehicle was being driven by Richard Salale, 44, of Meanwood Chamba Valley in Lusaka.
He stated that the accident happened yesterday around 20:00 hours along the Great North road in Kashikishi area.
He added that the baby is admitted to Kapiri Mposhi district hospital while the body of the deceased is lying in the same hospital mortuary awaiting for postmortem.
In another related development, a 35-year-old man identified as Aswell Mukoka of Kashitu area died in a hit and run accident.
He said the deceased died on the spot after being hit by an unknown vehicle and under unclear circumstances as the vehicle never stopped after the accident.
He revealed that the accident occurred on Saturday around 23:00 hours along the Kapiri-Ndola road in Kashitu area.
He disclosed that the body of the deceased is lying in Kapiri Mposhi district hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
And Mr. Mukuka has disclosed that an 84-year-old woman of Mukusa village in Chisamba district has been raped by a named man of Chibumbu village.
Mr. Mukuka said the incident happened on Friday around 02:00 hours after the suspect had asked for shelter from the victim claiming he was being attacked.
He said when the victim refused to render the help, the assailant forced the door open and threatened to kill her using a knife if she screamed before proceeding to rape her.
He stated that the suspect fled the scene after accomplishing his intentions while the victim sustained painful injuries on her private parts, neck and bruises on the thighs.
