600 liters of chemicals delivered to affected areas by Army Worms in Isoka

Isoka District Commissioner Collins Sichivula says about 600 liters of chemicals have been delivered to the affected wards that are infested by Fall Army Worms

The District Commissioner has revealed added that the district has embarked on pesticides distribution exercise to farmers who have been affected by Fall Army Worms,

“I can confirm that Government through the Ministry of Agriculture secured chemicals for fall army worms and we have started distributing to the affected farmers’ fields,” disclosed Mr. Sichivula.

He said the chemicals are for the 14 wards that lodged in complaints on Fall Army Worms infestation on their crops.

And one of the affected farmers Nthanzi Sikanyika told the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in an interview that part of the portion of his field was attacked by pests last week.

Mr Sikanyika said the quick intervention by agriculture experts and the spraying of the chemicals has served the crops.

“Cultivation of Maize has become so expensive that apart from  buying farming inputs we have to brace ourselves with money for buying chemicals to kill pests otherwise we run at a loss,” Lamented  Sikanyika.

Isoka District has about 12,000 Farmers that benefit from the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) each year.
