The Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) has maintained that it will not extend the deadline for the live facial capture exercise.
ZICTA Manager for Corporate Affairs, Hanford Chaaba, says the live facial capture exercise is very important for subscribers as it is meant to enhance security in cyberspace.
Mr Chaaba has clarified that the exercise is only for customers that acquired their sim cards from August 2019 to date and received messages from their service providers to have a live facial capture.
He has however said the authority is constantly in contact with the mobile service providers, adding that the process is going on very well.
Mr Chaaba told ZANIS in an interview that the process will make it easy for ZICTA to capture mobile fraud activities within the cyber space and other crimes related to mobile phones.
He has since encouraged subscribers to take the exercise seriously because the authority will not extend the deadline of 28th February, 2023.
In November last year, ZICTA gave a directive to mobile phone providers in the country that sim card owners should have a live facial capture.
