Security Guard attacked by armed criminals

Armed criminals attempted to break into a house belonging to a Chinese businessman in Mufulira district.

In a statement to ZANIS, Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba disclosed that the criminals attacked a housing complex in Jomo Kenyatta Avenue in Mufulira between 02:00 and 03:00 hours this morning, where they attempted to break into the house of the proprietor of Jin Chen Mart, but were disrupted by Police.

Mr Mweemba said Police received a call from Aubrey Jatiba, a male aged 33, of house number 79 Jomo Kenyatta Avenue who reported that an unknown number of criminals, armed with unknown types of firearms broke into the housing complex and attacked the Panaroma Security Guard.

He said the criminals grabbed the shot gun pump action from the Guard and held him hostage.

Mr Mweemba said the criminals later proceeded to damage the main door and windows for the Chinese businessman in an attempted robbery.

He said Police rushed to the scene and fired some warning shots, which led to the criminals running away.

“Upon receipt of the report, Police rushed to the scene and fired some warning shots and the criminals managed to run away,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said nothing was stolen only the shot gun pump action that was grabbed from the security guard was recovered within the yard.
