Govt recovers from FSP beneficiaries in Mkushi

Government has recovered over K300, 000 under the Food Security Pack (FSP) empowerment program  through the Community Development Department in Mkushi District.

Mkushi District Community Development Officer, Priscilla Mangowani told ZANIS that K320, 000 was recovered from the 2022 rain fed FSP exercise. 

Mrs Mangowani said 2, 048 vulnerable but viable beneficiaries gained from the exercise last year after being given farming inputs. 

She elaborated that each beneficiary got two bags of 50kg D-compound fertiliser and one bag of 50kg Urea fertilizer. 

Mrs Mangowani said in addition, each beneficiary got a 10kg bag of maize seed, plus a similar quantity of either soya or ground nut seed. 

She said that beneficiaries had been drawn from the Community Development’s seven sub-center zones that are spread out in the District.

Mrs Mangowani said that another program, the Alternative Livelihood Intervention (A.L.I) had empowered 26 people with 2 goats each. 

She said that apart from this, the A.L.I had given out 126 village chickens to 31 beneficiaries, saying that each beneficiary got 4 birds.  

The Officer said that on the overall, the FSP performance for 2022 was fairly good as the recoveries would enable the Department to facilitate the funding of programs in A.L.I as well as other   projects such as community infrastructure.
