Structures blocking water ways to be demolished

President Hakainde Hichilema has directed that all structures that are blocking waterways and causing flooding in most parts of Lusaka City be demolished as soon as possible.

The President says government is in a hurry to correct this situation as it has negatively impacted on the people in these areas and poses a health threat to them.

Speaking when he toured the flooded areas in Lusaka’s Kabwata Ward, the President emphasised that this decision is based on the best interest of the people and no politics involved.

He has further directed the local authorities to engage with the owners of the structures and said he would be forced to use his presidential powers if they are not willing to comply.

Flooding has been recorded in some parts of Lusaka where waterways have been blocked by structures.

The President is today touring flooded areas in Lusaka to check on the status of the situation in Kabwata, Kanyama and Matero constituencies.
